The Workers Financial Union (AØF) was founded in 1921 with the purpose of creating a gathering place for the PEOPLE. THE PEOPLES HOUSE movement was a result of the strong need of the creation for common gathering places for the working people. AØF in Trondheim has been property-holder in Olav Trygvasons st. 5 since 1921. The members of the workers union in Trondheim did at one point give 2 weeks of pay for the development of the property.
The founders of AØF had the courage of thinking further and larger, and created a concept which lived for about 50 years. At the end of the 90s the owners decided to revitalize the building and develop a new concept as a grand hall in Trondheim. The owners have also had the courage to be visionaries today. It seems to be a tradition within the AØF to envision and think of the future.
The core of the new concept of NOVA is the connection between course and conference rooms, hotel, events and cinema. There has been a hotel, conference rooms and a cinema in the Peoples House for many years, but this has been separate. Today NOVA is in the lead in Norway when it comes to the connection between cinema and course and conference activity. This is a technology and market based cooperation.
NOVA is still in an early phase of its development, but it is a wide and flexible offer, and this offer will increase in times ahead. NOVA is now on the brink of step 2 in our building process, which is the establishment of a grand hall for 1100 people on the top of the existing premises. It will be one of the most prominent grand halls of the city.
Nova is on the move.
